Lunch and Learn: The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
Wednesday, Aug 27, @11:30 AM
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is one of the top orchestras in the
country, and indeed is regarded by many as one of the best in the
world.  Heinz Hall, the home of the PSO, is a jewel of the Pittsburgh
cultural district, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the folks in
your senior community remember it in its earlier incarnation as the
Loews-Penn movie theater.  I will talk a bit about the history of the
Symphony and of the Hall, and about the important role the PSO plays in
our community, especially some of the less widely known aspects, such as
its extensive education and community outreach programs and its
importance to the region's economic development.  I would also like to
let people know some of the highlights of the new season and especially
about the excitement at the PSO regarding our wonderful new Music
Director, Manfred Honeck.  We'll also have time for questions and
comments, and we'll have a drawing for two free tickets to a Mellon
Grand Classic concert.
